Over 40 Years of Roasting

Garry Schuil founded Schuil Coffee Company on a basic principle - he wanted to provide the highest quality coffee at a great value, and that’s how we’ve been doing it for over 40 years. As the first specialty coffee roaster in Michigan, and one of the first in the US, our legacy proves our dedication to quality and consistency. Our coffee is roasted fresh daily and put through a rigorous QA process with a focus on attention to detail.

That feeling of joy you get from a really, great cup of coffee is what drives us here at Schuil. It’s why we work hard to source quality coffees that make up our carefully curated menu to meet a wide range of customers. All throughout the year, our team samples and scores coffees, selecting the best offerings to fit our menu. Schuil is proud to exclusively offer specialty coffee, from our flavored options, to our darkest roasts, all offerings must score at least an 80 (out of 100). We work closely with importers to ensure an exceptional and consistent product harvest to harvest while also keeping an eye out for innovative ideas that we can share with our customers.

OUR HISTORY

Schuil Coffee Timeline

1981

Schuil Coffee Company became one of the first specialty coffee roasters in Michigan, and one of the first in the US. Founders, Garry and Gladys, imported, roasted, and packaged only the very best beans available.

1983

Flavored coffee gets added to the product list!

1985

A change in location was much needed! Schuil moved to a new facility, the building we are currently in and operating from.

1989

Greta joined her parents in Grand Rapids at their new business, Schuil Coffee Company. From operations to establishing their retail business, sourcing, and more!

1992

Schuil Coffee Company expands operations with new warehouse and production area.

2004

The first rebrand to enhance logo and bag design!

2017

Tim Volkema purchased Schuil Coffee Company from Greta Schuil and became the owner and CEO.

2019

Schuil underwent another rebrand to refresh the logo, bag design, website, retail shop, office, and building!

2021

Schuil celebrates its 40th birthday. Cheers to 40 years!
